Airbnb cleaning is a growing field with steady, scheduled work — but it's different from regular house cleaning. Here's what the job involves, the skills that matter, and how to get started.

What an Airbnb cleaner does
An Airbnb or vacation rental cleaner resets a home between guests. That means washing and changing linens, cleaning kitchens and bathrooms, restocking supplies, checking for damage, and taking photos — usually in a window of a few hours between check-out and check-in.
How it's different from house cleaning
- There's a hard deadline: the next guest arrives at check-in
- The home must look like nobody stayed there before
- You restock and report, not just clean
- You check that lights, A/C, Wi-Fi and locks work
- You document your work with photos
Skills hosts look for
- Reliability and showing up on time
- Attention to detail — hair, crumbs and smudges
- Speed without cutting corners
- Clear communication with photos
- Comfort using scheduling and messaging apps
- Your own transportation
How to get started
- Learn a proven turnover checklist and order of operations
- Practice making beds hotel-style and staging a room
- Get comfortable taking clear before-and-after photos
- Decide whether to work independently or with a company
Working on your own vs. with a company
Working independently means finding hosts, bidding on jobs and handling scheduling and payments yourself. Joining a short-term rental cleaning company means the company finds the hosts, handles scheduling and supplies, and trains you to a standard — so you can focus on the cleaning.
